Inspired by wartime grit. Built for peace-time scribbles.

Back in 1943, while the world was on fire, the U.S. government and the American publishing industry pulled off something incredible: they printed over 120 million pocket-sized books for troops overseas—known as Armed Services Editions. Small. Tough. And just weird enough to stand out.

The Field Notes Winter 2025 release takes a bold step sideways into that story with their “1943” Edition. These aren’t your standard memo books—they’re “Two-Way” notebooks, inspired by the oddball horizontal format of those WWII originals. Each book has a horizontal cover on one side, a vertical one on the other, and staples on the short edge—so you can use 'em like a flip pad or a sketchbook, depending on your mission.

Great for jotting down grocery lists or field notes in enemy territory (or, y’know, Castroville).

Specs:
– 3-Pack: Red, Yellow, and Blue covers (they don’t run, but you might)
– 5.5" × 3.5" memo size, but sideways
– Westrock Tango 12pt coated cover stock (no relation to the dance)
– 60# Domtar Cougar “Natural” paper inside (smooth like a rationed whiskey)
– 3/16" graph grid in “Aged Newsprint” ink
– Proudly made in the U.S.A.
– For lists, lies, sketches, secrets, and daily grit

Why we carry ’em:
Because history matters. Because stationery should be cool. And because not everything needs to be on your damn phone.
